Kiwanis Holiday Wish Program Delivers Cheer
Holiday Wish Program was first presented to the Kiwanis Board by Al Boehne in 1999. The program was intended to help a family or individual who had suffered some misfortune and would benefit from some help during the holiday season
The number and amount of holiday wishes granted has varied each year. In 2010, we made 28 gifts totaling $6,125. Members, local businesses, and other individuals are encouraged to donate to the program. Each year, our local Kiwanis chapter has agreed to provide up to $2,500 in matching funds
Bob Spilman of KRCQ originally agreed to team up with Kiwanis in sponsoring the holiday wish program. New owner Leighton Broadcasting (which bought KRCQ in 2010) has continued to support our work.
KRCQ (102.3FM) runs ads promoting the program and requests letters be sent to Kiwanis nominating individuals and families to receive a holiday wish. Letters of nomination and donations can be sent to Kiwanis KRCQ Holiday Wish Program, PO Box 398, Detroit Lakes, MN 56502
If you are interested in being on the Holiday Wish Committee, contact Denise Fredrickson, Claire Tinjum, Dennis Schurman, or Kim Mollberg. The Committee will meet right after our weekly membership meetings during December to read letters and choose the individuals or families that will be granted a gift of up to $250
Some of the letters we receive will be read on air at KRCQ; however, the anonymity of those receiving the donation is preserved.
This program would not be possible without your continued support. Thank you!
Holiday Wish Committee
